Today is a big day, election day. However, I won't be casting my ballot. Why? I am not an American citizen. I am working towards it (I'm Canadian), and hopefully in the next election I will have the opportunity. I still have an opinion on who should win, and I know who I would be casting my vote for but it won't be happening this year.

Since I don't have any say in the outcome one thing I have concluded to is that no matter who ends up being President I am still responsible for my own success. Yes, there maybe additional obstacles to overcome depending on who wins, but that doesn't mean that I can't strive to achieve success in my family, career, community and on our farm. I won't use government as a crutch.

I hope you'll get out and vote today because you have that privilege and I don't.

Michael Angelo's Italian dinners review

Everyone Knows that I have been a fan of Michael Angelo's Italian dinners for a while now and you may have seen the other blog post I did for them before but I'm doing another one because they are a bit different than they were and a lot better than the bigger batches.

Michael Angelo's Italian dinners, are now being made in smaller batches from scratch to give you that really homemade taste and authentic Italian flavor that you only get from spending hours in the kitchen. I loved these before but now I have to say they are just the best frozen Italian dinner you can get flavor wise. I did a taste test with my family and they could not tell that it was frozen and that's really great. These are so easy to make and if you are planing any kind of get together with friends and family this year you could get a few of the many varieties they make and have no clean up and no fuss doing it.

I know you might not think that these could ever compare to homemade but let me tell you that I was married to an Italian for years and his aunt maria use to make these kinds of dishes all the time and I found that the Michael Angelo's Italian dinners tasted as good or better than her's did. So I just hope you at least give them a try, they really do just blow away the competition in a big way and I know you will just love them.

Top Five Crystal Cattle States Ag Facts

Today we are taking a break from Turquoise Thursday because there are a few posts I want to get in before the end of the year. It has been an incredible year on the Crystal Cattle Blog. I will be sharing with you the top posts of the year after Christmas but I thought it would be fun to check out where all my readers came from this year.

Using Google Analytics I can tell where my readers are located at. Yup, I am creeping on you.


This year I had people from 159 different countries visit the blog, however my U.S. readers are by far the most active. This graph shows where you are all from. The darker the green the most people visited.  Since I am passionate about agriculture and sharing information about the food farmers raise I thought it would be fun to share an ag fact from the top five states. 
1. TexasTexas is known for their beef right? That's because they lead the country in beef production with 13.86 million head. Did you know that the hide from one beef animal can make 20 footballs or 12 basketballs or 18 soccer balls or 144 baseballs. Click here to read more.
2. Kansas
Kansas is a huge producer of wheat. However, when I was in the state last week they are going to need some snow or rain as the winter wheat crops did not look very good, and that isn't a good thing for us. 3. California

4. Iowa
I am glad that my home state made the Top Five list! Iowa is known for all of our corn, but did you also know that we lead the nation in growing soybeans, raising pork and producing eggs. Today an Iowa farmer feeds about 155 people, during the 80's it was about 80 people. Click here to read more.

It looks like our neighbors have been reading my blog too. I thought that it was really interesting to learn that Illinois has more than 950 food manufacturing companies in the state. Week of Instagram: Beef Charts and Grilled Cheese

Variety is the spice of life.
There is quite a mix of Instagram pictures from this past week. In seven days I managed to be four states and one province which allows you to see a lot of different things along the way.


This was the giant beef chart that I found at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. I was there working at a cattle show. Wouldn't it be cool to have this one your wall! Your beef cooking instructions would be right there. For some smaller versions check out this post I did on beef charts awhile ago. 

Our small town doesn't have a Panera so while traveling I decided to stop in and enjoy some soup. I love soup! However the Big Kid Grilled Cheese caught my eye. If you are anywhere close to a Panera run there right now and order this because it is amazing. It also has bacon on it. Perfection. 

I mentioned that I was in a province this week, that's because I made a quick trip home to Alberta to surprise my sister on her wedding dress shopping weekend. I can't show any pictures of the dress so I figured a picture of one of her cows was the next best thing. This cow's name is Elle. She originated from Kentucky but I think she likes her Alberta home now. Currently, Iowa is completely brown but it is about to look a lot more like this picture. They are calling for 8-12 inches of snow tonight!

So I had a little inspiration on this post. Recently, a blogging friend spent the week in New York and then got engaged. Not too bad, I would say. While in New York it was her birthday and she got these really cool turquoise (Tiffany Blue) earrings.

I decided that I needed to check out the Tiffany & Co. website to see what other goodies they had. Yeah, I would say there is quite a bit on there that I fancy.

Easy Christmas Chocolates

Time for the sweets. 

A few years ago I started making chocolates for Christmas. I like to bake, but the chocolates seem to be easier than decorating dozens of gingerbread men. I have been posting a few pictures on Instagram and some of you asked me for my recipe. It is quite simple.

I like to use the Wilton melting chocolate. I have shopped around and Wal-Mart is usually the lowest price unless Joann's is having a sale. Hobby Lobby seemed to be quite high this last time. It seems to take a lot of chocolate so buy more than you think you'll need. Trust me.


I find it is easiest to melt my chocolate in a plastic bag. You want a slow and steady melt. I like to set my microwave onto defrost and then microwave it for 30-40 seconds at a time. With it being in a bag  you can massage the chocolate to help melt it. 

It you don't got slow and steady this is what you will get. Stuff that looks like fudge, but tastes awful. Just throw the stuff away. Trust me. 

Next I place cookie cutters on wax paper (sometime I do it straight on the cookie sheet), cut a tiny hole in my plastic bag and fill the cookie cutters. To get the chocolate to settle and fill in the corners gently shake the cookie cutter or tap the pan on the counter. You will get a little seepage but that is fine. 
If you want to put decorators on you chocolate or create a chocolate that has two layers of chocolate you will want to throw the cookie sheet into the fridge for about 30-40 seconds. This will firm up the chocolate a little bit so the decorations won't sink or the two chocolates won't mix. 
Once the chocolates are completely hardened pop them off the tray, break off the parts that seeped out, and then gently push out of the cookie cutter. 

This year I also bought this gingerbread mold (Hobby Lobby under $10). One bag of melting chocolates will do about 24-28 little gingerbread men. I find it takes the chocolates in this kind of mold a lot longer to firm up. 
I love using crushed candy canes, gummy bears, Christmas sprinkles and almonds to decorate my chocolates. However, I think the combination below is by far my favorite this year. 
2 Tbsp. chopped almonds2 Tbsp. Heath toffee chips (find these in the baking isle)2 Tbsp. mini chocolate chips1 oz. Craisins (ome for the individual packages)

This year I also have done a few chocolate covered marshmallows. I used cake pop sticks that you can find at most craft stores. Push the stick almost all the way into the marshmallow. I find again it works best to melt you chocolate in a bag, but then pour it into a bowl. Dunk you marshmallow in the chocolate and wipe some of it of the bottom with a spatula so it doesn't smoosh all out when placed on the cookie sheet. Yes, smoosh is a word. 
To decorate you need to choose really light decorations or they will drag down and fall off while they are hardening. Turn the marshmallow on its side and rotate as you sprinkle and then place on the cookie sheet. Let harden in your fridge.

A little help with your Christmas Shopping
Recently, I came across Three Bird Nest on Etsy and I am hooked. I purchased a couple things off their Etsy page as Christmas gifts, and want to purchase numerous things for myself, but I have refrained as I am hoping Santa, my parents, sister, friends, inlaws, husband, etc. will help me out.


I know it isn't turquoise but this is the item I am talking about. Isn't this bow scarf amazing. I don't think I haven't ever seen anything like it. Plus, it is on sale right now for $28.When I go to Denver in January for the National Western Stock Show and it is always so cold that people only see your jacket and scarf is would be the perfect accessory. 

We've all seen them on Pinterest now is your chance to purchase. These turquoise boot socks aren't on my Christmas list as right now I don't have any tall riding boots to wear them with however I know lots of my readers do. 

This is one of the headbands that Three Bird Nest has recently added. Isn't it cute.

As you can see it comes in a bunch of different color combinations. I mean the cows have already shown an appreciation for my sock buns and high heels and I am sure they would appreciate a little headband glamour when feeding them. 

This is actually the knitted ear warmer I have on my wish list. I'm not sure if it the headband I love or just this girls hair!

I have to tell you I was so blessed to be to try and review the really awesome Esio Beverage maker. They say this is the greatest thing since the invention of the microwave and they really mean it and I cant agree more.

This Esio Beverage maker makes hot and cold beverages with the aid of special packets of many different kinds of beverages. You can make everything from V8 splash to coffee with this unit and you can do it all in a flash.

The way the Esio works is it has both a built in fridge to dispense cold beverages and a hot side that will make coffee or tea. It is also really handy for just dispensing plain cold water or hot water. The different drink packets are each enough to make 14 8 oz drinks and there are so many to choose from. Here is a photo of the different kinds I got to try.As you can see they have a packet for everyone and more that this to choose from.There are so many thing to love about the Esio, for family gatherings or party's it is really a time saver. You do not have to worry about supplying drinks for each guests taste, all you do is let them pick from the many flavors available. each one is quick and easy to serve no more multi pitchers of drinks in the fridge.

I really liked it which I was a bit surprised , the reason I was surprised is because I am not a tremendous fan of westerns, I most often read books that take place in English history. That being said I have to say this book was really very good. it had the right amount of christian reference so I could actually learn from the charters and take something from reading the book that will help me in my walk with Christ.

The story is about a widow Julia Grace who must try and keep her ranch out of hands of the nonferrous half brother of her dead husband.Julia did not have a happy life with her husband and as a result is really not interested in ever being married again.

Into her life comes a drifter with secrets of his own named Hugh Brennan . together Hugh and Julia have to overcome the betrayal's that left them devastated and learn to trust and love again.

I found this book to be a really great read that kept me very interested and was difficult to put down. I also loved the line in the book from the bible that Im going to remember always because it seems to really fit my life right now which is. " I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten"I be hopeful that the many ears of my life that were eaten my locust will one day be restored to me. So this was a really inspirational read and a story of new love new hope and new understanding I recommend it to anyone thanks for reading my review .

I was able to try Dial Foaming antibacterial Hand Wash, through Purex insiders and I found them to be a really great hand wash that also protects from bacteria and leaves hands smelling fresh and clean.

I was so excited when I heard that I was going to be able to review Charmin Freshmates through vocalpoint because I use a lot of bathroom wipes and am always interested in trying out new kinds . I can say I really love them, they come in such a pretty package and it goes well with my bathroom decor. Granted since I moved my bathroom is much older than in my last house but I do try and keep it looking nice . Charmin Freshmates lets me be creative with the space I have available to me with these colorful new boxes.

This are great flushable wipes that are great to have on hand this holiday season. These really give you a nice fresh feeling and are handy for a lot of things.I really love the packaging for these wipes because they ad a nice festive touch to an otherwise plain container.

I have always loved Torani Coffee syrup but not only for coffee,Torani Makes 130 different kinds of flavors my favorite being the lemon one for my tea.I was able to try 2 flavors out through Sheespeaks and the sponsored this blog post. I had tried both flavors before but not in the sugar free which really made my day because I do not need extra calories in my drinks.

I tried the salted caramel I got to try with a hot coco drink so it made a caramel hot coco and was very good and warming.so recipe is to buy your favorite instant hot coco mix or coco flavored coffee and than add some of the Torani Salted caramel syrup to it its really great!

Torani Syrups are good for so many thing and they will come in handy this holiday because you can make all kinds of great things with them . No sticker for me. 

Today is a big day, election day. However, I won't be casting my ballot. Why? I am not an American citizen. I am working towards it (I'm Canadian), and hopefully in the next election I will have the opportunity. I still have an opinion on who should win, and I know who I would be casting my vote for but it won't be happening this year.

Since I don't have any say in the outcome one thing I have concluded to is that no matter who ends up being President I am still responsible for my own success. Yes, there maybe additional obstacles to overcome depending on who wins, but that doesn't mean that I can't strive to achieve success in my family, career, community and on our farm. I won't use government as a crutch.

I hope you'll get out and vote today because you have that privilege and I don't.
